2013 Season Recap #4: COLORADO

As the PA snow started to melt during March, I directed my focus towards preparing for Nationals. This meant wrapping things up at work, making time for gym conditioning and proper nutrition, and nursing the shoulder.

Gearing up for a ride at Breckenridge. (Thanks to Dave Calfo for
adding the Daybreak Carve logo to my Legacy!)

In planning for my third time at Nationals, I decided to arrive a week before race day in order to have time for some on-snow training, and to acclimate to the high altitude. The journey started with a cross-country road trip that included visiting friends, battling a snowstorm, and setting sights on the Rockies.

I rode at Breckenridge the day after arriving in Colorado, and spent time working on conditioning through some trees and moguls. The conditions were bluebird and gorgeous (and cold) and I posted an edit of my runs on my Vimeo page:

Jb and I spent the next few days practicing on the Nationals boardercross course at Copper Mountain. The start features were a little intense, but manageable. We focused on controlled quickness over these features on the first day, and the next couple of days were spent dialing in the rest of the course. Jb put together a couple of nice edits of our practice runs:
Practice Day 1, Practice Day 2.

Husband Nick arrived later during the week, and on my Friday rest day he rode around Copper (after battling some altitude sickness). One of our friends, Kaelin, met us for dinner that evening (later joined by her boyfriend) and the next day the four of us took some runs around the Rendezvous chair at Copper in the morning.

Lots of snow = all smiles
I left the group to take a few more practice runs on the race course Saturday afternoon, and husband Nick continued riding with Kaelin and Rob (and had his first cat ride experience on the Copper bowl!).

After practice and the USASA Opening Ceremonies, the remainder of Saturday was a rest day for me, along with Sunday, in preparation for the big day on Monday, April 1.

We spent the time stretching, eating Jb's incredible lasagna, and prepping gear with sights set on the podium.
